From the East
Take Interstate 70 or 270 West from Baltimore, MD or Washington, D.C., to Frederick, Maryland. Take 340 West towards Charles Town, WV (Exit 52). Two miles past Harpers Ferry, exit right onto 230 North and follow to Shepherdstown. Cross Railroad tracks and turn right on South Princess St. then left onto German Street into downtown Shepherdstown. To reach the National Conservation Training Center, go to the top of the hill and turn right at the 4-way stop sign. At the bottom of the hill, turn left onto Shepherd Grade Road. Follow Shepherd Grade Road 4 miles and turn right onto Conservation Way at NCTC.
From the West
Take Interstate 70 East to Hagerstown, Maryland. In Hagerstown follow Interstate 81 South to Martinsburg, West Virginia, and take Exit 16 East (Route 9 East) into Martinsburg. Turn left onto Route 45 East, and follow Route 45 into Shepherdstown. To reach the National Conservation Training Center turn left at the 4-way stop sign. At the bottom of the hill, turn left onto Shepherd Grade Road. Follow Shepherd Grade Road 4 miles and turn right onto Conservation Way at NCTC.
From the North or South
Take Interstate 81 to Martinsburg, WV, and take Exit 16 East (Route 9 East) into Martinsburg. Turn left onto Route 45 East, and follow Route 45 into Shepherdstown. To reach the National Conservation Training Center turn left at the 4-way stop sign. At the bottom of the hill, turn left onto Shepherd Grade Road. Follow Shepherd Grade Road 4 miles and turn right onto Conservation Way at NCTC.
From Hagerstown, MD
Take Route 70 to Exit 29A towards Sharpsburg (MD-65 South). Follow MD-65 South (Sharpsburg Pike) to Sharpsburg. In Sharpsburg, turn Right onto E Main Street (MD-34) and follow, crossing into WV over the Potomac River and into Shepherdstown. MD-34 becomes WV-480. To reach the National Conservation Training Center turn right onto Shepherd Grade Road immediately after the Bavarian Inn. Follow Shepherd Grade Road 4 miles and turn right onto Conservation Way at NCTC. To reach downtown Shepherdstown, continue up the hill turn left at the 4-way stop sign onto German Street.
From Leesburg, VA
Take Route 7 West to Route 9 West through Charles Town, WV to Kearneysville. Take Shepherdstown exit onto Route 480 North and follow to Shepherdstown. To reach the National Conservation Training Center go straight through the 4-way stop sign to the bottom of the hill, turn left onto Shepherd Grade Road. Follow Shepherd Grade Road 4 miles and turn right onto Conservation Way at NCTC.
From Washington Dulles International Airport:
Depart airport to Rt 267 West to toll booth (exit from airport road is almost immediate). From the toll booth, go:
- 12 miles W on Rt 267 - from LEFT lane, exit onto Rt 7 West (to Leesburg, VA)
- 4.5 miles W on Rt 7 - exit onto Rt 9 West (to Rt 671, Harpers Ferry Road)
- 9.7 miles W on Rt 9, Charles Town Pike - Right turn at traffic light at Rt. 671 Harpers Ferry Road.
- 7.6 miles north on Rt. 671, Harpers Ferry Road (to Rt 340). Left turn at traffic light.
- Follow Rt. 340 4.4 miles to second traffic light at Rt. 230. Turn right on Rt. 230.
- Follow 230 for 8.9 miles to Shepherdstown. Cross Railroad tracks and turn right on South Princess St.
- Follow to German Street, turn left into downtown Shepherdstown.
To reach the National Conservation Training Center go to the 4-way stop sign on German St., turn right, drive down hill, past student cross walk and turn left on Shepherd Grade Road. Follow for 4 miles and turn right into Training Center gate. |
